Tag games session IV

In this class we kept on presenting our tag games and we also saw a practical example of teaching responsibility during physical education.
In order to carry out the responsibility activity, first we designed in pairs some exercises related to basketball. This workshop helped us to reflect what kind of movements are required in that sport and what is the best way to practice them. Moreover, it ensured that all the pupils had a minimun background in basketball before going to class, which sped up the exercises done. In the case of primary education students, this methodology would have been advantageous as well, as those children who were not familiar with basketball would have to have asked for help to their parents or have searched for the need information.

Afterwards, the professor chose the best exercises and wrote them down in the blackboard assigning them points according to the degree of difficulty. Then, the students were asked to perform exercises in pairs in order to gain a total of 20 points. In my view, this is a very good idea since students have the chance to select the exercises they want to do, specializing in what they want, but always performing movements related to that sport thus the aim of the class can be combined with the pupils' likes. Moreover, the fact that the activity is carried out in pairs allow students to help each other and, therefore, develop also attitudinal objectives.
The activity was finished with a self-evaluation in which students were asked not only to evaluate their physical outcomes, but also their attitudinal ones. This is one of the most important points in the activity because what we want to transmit to our students is that the physical aspect is not the only one that matters, but also effort, respect and collaboration.

As a result, doing this activity and similar ones will help us to promote a great variety of aims. As we have seen, responsibility is the common requisite in all the activities during the process. This approach is very useful, but only if it is done along the whole education and not only once. It will help students understand that in class and in life they belong to a group and that their decisions and responsibilities will lead to the better functioning of the group and also themselves.
